Is it really as bad as people think it is? I mean, its a subject the media wont touch with a 10ft pole, its something only seen on TV at late nights or on specific channels and if your parents catch you with it, you get grounded :giggle: .

But seriously, if you think about it, its not all that bad. Some of humanities greatest art could be classed as "pornography". The church has pornography down as "Something that cuases sexual thought". Well, i have one thing to say to them and that is this: Pornography doesnt cause sexual thought... having a dick causes sexual thought... for you women, i'd have to say the ability or have multipul orgasms are the reason that cause your sexual thoughts. To quote a famous comedian who once brought up this subject "You could be riding on the train, rocking back and forth, you look down and suddenly you find your covering yourself saying 'Oh my god! I got a woody!" If they want to ban 'pornography then, would they ban public transportation? For them to want to ban pornography but promote having sex and raising families, you think they would PROMOTE having sexual thoughts. I know i'd buy a bible if it had centre fold models in them :p

I dont think pornography is wrong or immoral. We are human, these kind of thoughts are in our nature, we cant change them as much as we cant change the fact we are the most destructive race on this planet. Your thoughts?

I don't think pornography is as bad as people think! I personally watch it all the time. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's some of the greatest arts...I have sexual thoughts to but, damn I get a "woody" in class sometimes and I'm like god damn it! You also can't really ban pornography there will always be a way to watch it and you will always have sexual thoughts.

Pornography is one of the things that will continue to exist, as long as we humans exist. We have sexual thoughts all the time, and like LP stated above, It isn't immoral as the majority of people think.

I personally watch porn when I got nobody home, so I can enjoy It. ;)

To ban pornography completely from society would be impossible. It is very engrained in people and has been for thousands of years. Humans have always had a fascination with sex and art. The concept of combining the two is one that developed early on in our history.

Being a practicing catholic for many years, I can understand the stance the Church has on pornography. In the Church’s view, sex is a gift from God that is intended to be shared intimately between a married man and women. The act of taking this intimate practice and filming it for strangers to see is a perversion. The perversion of a gift from God is understandably upsetting to faithful Christians.

I myself respect the stance that the Catholic Church has, and believe in my heart that it is true. I think it’s important to note that Catholicism is not the only religion that has taboos when it comes to sex. Indeed, many organized religions around the world have varying views on the sanctity of sex.

If one disagrees with or does not hold a particular religious view on pornography; then I think it’s safe for them to assume that for the most part, pornography is just harmless entertainment. However I do feel that their are certain dangers to it.

In many cases porn can become the source of an addiction. People can start dedicating long, unhealthy amounts of time to the searching and viewing of porn. Such a practice can affect their work life, their relationship with friends and family, and even their overall health.

There is also the issue of those who can’t distinguish reality from fantasy. An example being a man who enjoys watching fake rape porn scenes could possibly take the fantasy of it and make it real by actually raping someone. Obviously such occurrences are not widespread, but they still can happen.

Like many things in life, Pornography has a truly dark side to it. There is the unfortunate illegal, underground side of porn. There are films and images that contain real rapes, child molestation, and even real deaths. Most people try not the think of the dark side of porn, rather focusing on mainstream porn. But I think as human beings we have an obligation to be mindful of the crimes that can and are committed in the name of pornography.

Great post, waufreak!

I just wanted to add that a film by the name of "8mm", starring Nicholas Cage, does a decent job of exploring the dark side of illegal and underground porn. Not a great movie overall, but it is an intersting look at some of the dark aspects of snuff and pornography.

By the way Adam, I've seen that movie twice, and I've quite liked It.

Speaking of underground and the dark side of pornography, that is known to almost all of us, we avoid It. I'm sure all of us here like the mainstream porn.. :giggle:

I think porn can be harmful if a someone becomes addicted to it. That person could start to neglect their partner/spouse. I think that exposing young kids to porn decays a part of society. I remember when I was in the 5th grade and someone said the word "gay" and the whole class was like shocked and the kid defended himself by saying it means to be happy.

Now a days, kids know about the slang terms of human body parts. Porn gives them the wrong idea about sex.

Yeah, it really pisses me off when people use words like "gay" or "retarded" as an insult.

But on topic:
I'm too young to legally be watching porn, and at the moment, it holds no real appeal to me, but that's probably 'cause the hormones have yet to kick in. Heh.

I think that is an excellent point.

When it comes to sex, kids need to be introduced to its concepts gradually and in a controlled way. Pornography is certainly counter-productive to that cause. With it’s almost instant availability and overall widespread range, the unfortunate reality is that many children will be exposed to sex through porn long before they have the chance to learn about it form a trusted adult figure. The result can be that children develop an incorrect picture of what exactly sex is.
